Graduating with a degree in Law and Politics I was deeply unsure about which path lay ahead of me. However, I was certain it wasn’t a postgrad in Law. With a deep passion for media coverage of global and domestic news and being an avid pig skin chaser, catcher, thrower and kicker, due to my kiwi roots; I knew I had to wedge myself with my legal and political knowledge into the world of communications, whilst also periodically running round a grass field.

Doing a master’s in International Journalism allowed me to not only expand my passion for media coverage and current events, whilst learning about the world of communications from some of the best journalism lecturers in the UK, at Cardiff University’s School of Journalism, Media and Culture. I was also able to continue playing American Football and Rugby to my heart’s content.

During my undergraduate I especially enjoyed studying international relations modules and exploring the wider impact that news coverage of global events has on society. Doing a master’s in International Journalism allowed me to expand my passion for media coverage and explore the world of communications in further depth. I was able to combine my legal and political knowledge with my studies in journalism to better understand the relations between real world events, the media and how this combines to influence people and discussions.

I moved from Cardiff to St Albans in 2024, and due to its proximity to London I felt this offered the opportunity to jump into the world of communications professionally. Joining BlueSky Education has been a wonderful opportunity to engage in the genuine process of news creation. Engaging with academics from respected higher education institutions and reputable media outlets is a valuable experience; whereby I get to put my personal interest and communications training into practice.

Having spent five years studying at university, one could say I am passionate about academia, more importantly than this I absolutely appreciate the integral and vital role these institutions play in society. The work that the BlueSky team does, not only allows me to further my skills in PR and communications more broadly, however, I also assist these institutions that are so important in creating positive change globally.

I am still managing to grace the local footy paddock with my average antipodean rugby ability. Now working at BlueSky is also allowing myself to balance an exciting and growing professional communications career and an active lifestyle.
